Serinium is a silver-white color, nearer in color to platinum and white gold than any other contemporary metal. Serinium will never oxidize, tarnish, or lose its color. Serinium is tough, hard, and scratch-resistant. Despite its hardness, Serinium will not chip or shatter if dropped on a hard surface. Serinium is easily and safely removed in emergencies by applying pressure with hand-held vise grips. Serinium is considered hypoallergenic.
Ceramic can be made in many colors, including black, white, and brighter colors such as pink. All colors are solid throughout, eliminating the effects of wear even if scratched or worn. The ceramic used in fine jewelry is a high-tech ceramic compound that is extremely hard and lightweight, resulting in a beautiful and enduring ring. Extremely hard and scratch-resistant (rated a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale). Ceramic has an elegant lightweight feel, only half the weight of tungsten carbide. Ceramic is hypoallergenic and non-conductive, and it can be broken off in an emergency using vice grips or a ring cracker. Ceramic is considered hypoallergenic.
Tungsten carbide begins as a bright, light grey metal, and due to oxidation will turn to a dark grey color over time. The original contemporary jewelry metal, tungsten carbide is technically a ceramic. It is the hardest of contemporary metals, but it is brittle and can chip or crack if dropped on a hard surface. Tungsten carbide is extremely scratch-resistant, heavy, and hard. Tungsten carbide must be broken off with a ring cracker or vice grip pliers.
